Originally called Boulder Dam, the Hoover Dam straddles the border of Arizona and Nevada. Construction began in 1933 and was completed two years later. Built with 3.2 million cubic yards of concrete, the dam is some 726 feet high, ranking 20th in the world for height. From 1939 to 1949 it was the worlds largest producer of hydroelectric power; today the dam generates some 4.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Lake Mead, the reservoir created by the dam, covers 247 square miles and is a major recreation area. Construction footage of the building of Hoover Dam. We did not use beaner labor but there were some native Americans employed. Most employed were white Americans due to the very high unemployment in the country at the time.
There Must have Been QUite a bit of Navajo's on that job.....Aswell as mexicans. Construction takes team work..thats wat i really love about construction. And the fact that any thing can happen on a given day.haha
Look at the work those men are doing, dangling down the side of a cliff only supported by ropes while hammering away, these days most men cant even change the flat tire on their car, they have to call out a tow truck to do it for them.
Interesting, thanks for the upload! :) Ive been there before when I went on holiday to the USA, the scale of it is mindblowing, especially taking into consideration it was built in the 30's.
