US 93 North (NV & AZ), Hoover Dam Bypass
This video covers the new 4 lane alignment of the Hoover Dam Bypass, and includes footage of the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, located 1600 feet downstream from the Hoover Dam. At 900 feet in height, it is the 2nd tallest bridge in the country.

  1. IMO, this bridge would have still been constructed if not for 9/11 as the previous road was very narrow and winding.

  3. Just read this right now. The comment is VERY much appreciated. I really have no other incentive to put these videos together, other than for the enjoyment for others to watch. Glad you enjoyed! Feel free to watch my newest videos, which are much improved, thanks to a camcorder upgrade.

  4. wow, does this area look different! born and grew up in NV; haven't see Boulder Dam since the 70's.
p.s. i REALLY enjoy your "roadtrips" Brent. What a pleasant surprise to find them! Get to travel by proxy! watching your films is the next best thing to actually motoring on the highways. And, since I can't be there, your movies have opened a new world 4 me. I esp love the West. Your filming is excellent! As you say, "relax and enjoy" and I do!

  5. Thanks for the tip! I was wondering if those were wildlife overpasses or future interchanges, when I drove through and recorded this. I'd like to come back and re-record this soon, with the final product (as in, no temporary 2 lane striping or paving projects currently underway).

  6. I know this is video is almost a year ago but for those of you that were wondering the overpasses are for desert bighorn sheep, they are used to reconnect the population and reduce the collisions with bighorn sheep by motorists, so far very succesful. Cool Video.

  7. Great video thanks for posting

  8. Weird is...from the Arizona side, the road that interchanges US 93 is no longer open to traffic. Are they making you cross the bridge just to access the Hoover Dam now?

  9. @Mobi666: Sorry, I guess I didn't make it clear enough/word that correctly...you can walk across both the Hoover Dam...and/or walk across the new bypass bridge, from the parking lot. There's always a steady stream of visitors walking on the new bridge. Hopefully this makes more sense.

  10. : Hi thanks but that's not what I meant. I visited the hoover dam last year. I would like to know if you can walk on the new bridge so that you can take some pics of hoover dam from on the bridge. (because with the car you see nothing driving on the bridge)

  11. Hi, I've read that you can stop along the road when going to Vegas near the new bridge to actually see Hoover dam from the new bridge? Is this true? I didn't notice any parking grounds before or after the bridge in your vid?

  12. @Mobi666: Hey there. Yes, you can still access the old road (and the parking lot to walk on top of both the Hoover Dam and the new bypass bridge) by getting off at Nevada State Route 172 at Exit 2 (former US 93). In the green annotation at time marker 5:36 in the video, it says "To Hoover Dam Visitor Center." Hope this helps.

  13. @Coastergeekperson04: Ha, yeah. The good news is that the facility is now 4 lanes throughout; no more construction or paving work.

2:38 -- When I saw the "DO NOT PASS" sign I was thinking "Why?" but then I saw the cars coming from the other side...

  15. @HoltCalifornia: Oh hey, just read this now. I'd say I-15, most definitely. US 95 is only 1 lane in each direction and really not all that interesting, scenery-wise. At least not between US 93 and I-40.

  16. I mean from LV to LA

    BalasHapus
  17. Which freeway is more fun taking back from LV? US 95 or I-15?

    BalasHapus
  18. You double also by the right in the freeway and I was wondering if you have the right ^^ (sorry for my english)

    BalasHapus
  19. @TheSmallville75: If you meant passing to the right, yes, it is completely legal in the US.

    BalasHapus
  20. @TheSmallville75: I'm actually not sure what you mean by this, since I've never heard of such a term here. Is there another way to describe what you were trying to explain, by any chance?

    BalasHapus
  21. In the united states you are entitled to double by the right ?

    BalasHapus
  22. True. the bottleneck gets tight and slow in Boulder City,NV during mid-day and after-noon, once you clear of Boulder City the traffic is not to bad over the new bridge into AZ.

  23. @north5880: Pat Tillman. A man who definitely made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

  24. @Halsey71: Hey, thanks for the kind words and encouragement!
